Privileged Password Management
The management and control of shared/privileged account passwords of all type is a demanding security and compliance concern for today's enterprise.
Internally developed solutions such as, safe/envelope, encrypted spreadsheets and databases are unable to meet the audit demands driven by SOX, PCI, HIPAA, GLBA, Basel II and others.
Unlike typical user accounts, these shared/privileged accounts are typically granted elevated privilege with an ability to create/control other accounts, change configurations, modify system information and even affect existing security and audit controls. Add to this, the fact that these accounts are typically generic (root, administrator, enable, etc.) and have no individual accountability and you realize the security and compliance issues they represent.
- Identification & Authentication determines who can log on to a system, and the association of users with the applications, documents & systems they are able to access & control
- Authorisation determines what a users can do;
- Accountability identifies what a user actually did whilst access an application, document or system
